Green Beauty Vs. Clean Beauty Vs. Sustainable Beauty

April is Earth Month, here is your reminder that Earth Day 2021 is Thursday, April 22. Earth month is an excellent opportunity for us to discuss the difference between green beauty and clean beauty because they are in fact not the same and the message can get confused.

The way we at Essance prefer to discuss the difference is that you can look at Green Beauty as ingredients that come from Mother Earth, the ingredients are organic, eco-friendly, and natural.

Clean Beauty by definition by the cosmetic industry is products that are made without ingredients shown or suspected to harm human health. Within these elements of organic, clean, and natural; not all of these products are produced without ingredients shown or suspected to harm human health, also known as toxins.

Toxin is a general term that can identify with anyone ingredient to be toxic. To clearly state, we could define toxins to exclude 15-30 commonly used chemicals in cosmetics. These chemicals can serve the consumers to understand which product can align with their definition of toxin-free.

To be considered Green Beauty, a product will typically include that 70% of their total weight is made of organic and natural ingredients. Clean Beauty does not necessarily have to be organic, only that 70% is produced from natural sources but can also contain any form of chemicals commonly used in cosmetics. Sustainable beauty identifies with green beauty products that are packaged in biodegradable with PCR or recyclable packaging.

Essance Skincare products are considered Green Beauty. Our products are specially handcrafted herbal, organic, cruelty-free, and vegan skincare. At Essance Skincare, we believe it is just as essential to nourish our skin with natural plant-based products as it is to feed our bodies with naturally organic foods. Our mission is to source only the best organic, sustainable, and fair trade ingredients.

When you look at an Essance product, you will see that it is free of artificial color, artificial fragrance, harmful sulfates, and phthalates. You will notice that each product is a powerhouse of organic and medicinal plant ingredients intended to revitalize, heal, and protect the skin. A few of the key organic ingredients that we use here at Essance are Chaga Mushroom, Sea Buckthorn Oil, Organic Aloe Juice, and Essential Oils. The products that you put on your body matter equally as much as the food you put into your body.

Skin is our largest organ and whatever you are putting on it is being absorbed into your body. It’s extremely important that you understand the difference between products that market if they are Green, Clean or Sustainable.
